Gillian Anderson just offered up a new statement regarding Ryan Coogler’s ‘The X-Files’ and whether or not she’ll appear in the new take.
Gillian Anderson co-stars in the new film out today, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma (read our review). Even with that, we’re all still asking the question…will The X-Files star make an appearance in Ryan Coogler‘s (Sinners) reboot?
Anderson recently sat down with Syfy to answer that question. Well, sort of. Said Anderson, “I think that what he [Coogler] has created is incredibly unique and at the same time feels very quintessentially X-File-ian. I can’t think of a better filmmaker and team to carry the franchise forward than he and [cinematographer] Autumn [Durald Arkapaw] and the rest of the internal team that he’s worked with on a few things, including Sinners and Black Panther. I think it’s extraordinary that the franchise has them at the helm.”
Continued The X-Files icon, “It’s entirely not possible for me to answer whether I will ever be a part of that, but I think it’s fantastic that they’re doing it, and that [creator] Chris [Carter] allowed them to and Disney allowed them to.”
Clearly, Anderson is neither confirming nor denying. The fact that she hasn’t flat out said “no” just yet makes me think there’s a strong possibility we’ll see her and X-Files co-star David Duchovny show up at some point, even if it’s just a cameo.
I want to believe.
In the new take, two highly decorated but vastly different FBI agents —played by Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel — form an unlikely bond when they are assigned to a long-shuttered division devoted to cases involving unexplained phenomena.
Coogler wrote and directed the Hulu pilot.
