Netflix Orders ‘Sid & Zoey’, Supernatural Romance About Two Teens Drawn Into the Dark Secrets Beneath an Idyllic Mississippi Town

Netflix has given a straight-to-series order to Sid & Zoey, a supernatural mystery/romance from creator Jon Kasdan (Disney+’s Willow, The First Time) and co-showrunner John Shiban (Ozark, Breaking Bad), reports THR.

J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot and Blumhouse Atomic Monster are also involved.

Netflix describes Sid & Zoey this way: “Sid, a seductive, sophisticated, and amoral teenager from New York, is sent to live with a police chief and his family in the idyllic Mississippi town where his mother grew up. The family includes the chief’s sharp-witted, punk-rock daughter, Zoey. Resisting their mutual attraction, Sid and Zoey find themselves drawn into a dark, hidden world beneath the town’s picture-postcard facade — and a supernatural mystery that may well get them killed if they don’t kill each other first.”

Kasdan and Shiban both have experience on YA shows and those dealing with otherworldly elements. Kasdan was a writer on Freaks and Geeks and Dawson’s Creek early in his career and wrote and directed the 2012 feature The First Time, a romantic comedy about two high schoolers who fall for each other over a weekend. Shiban’s credits include The X-Files and Supernatural.

Blumhouse Atomic Monster is producing Sid & Zoey. Kasdan and Shiban are co-showrunners and executive produce with J.J. Abrams and Rachel Rusch Rich for Bad Robot and Jason Blum, James Wan, and Rob Hackett for Blumhouse Atomic Monster.
