Billy has some competition.
The upcoming multiplayer horror game SAW: Genesis is introducing a brand-new puppet to the Saw universe, and today we have our first proper introduction to Bette the Puppet.
Described as a handmade doll whose “creepy, curious presence reminds you that you’re probably going to die,” Bette serves as a messenger for the Judge, delivering instructions to the Accused from afar while allowing her creator to remain hidden in the shadows.
And apparently, she’s always watching and hoping to finger paint with your blood. Fun!
Bette is essentially SAW: Genesis’ answer to Billy the Puppet, the instantly recognizable tricycle-riding nightmare that has served as the face of the Saw franchise since James Wan and Leigh Whannell’s original 2004 film.
The game takes place long before John Kramer ever started playing his games.
Set in the grim aftermath of World War I, SAW: Genesis is a 3v1 multiplayer horror game in which one player becomes the Judge, described as a precursor to Jigsaw, while three others play the Accused and attempt to survive a maze of traps and impossible choices.
Bette delivers the Judge’s instructions to those victims, acting as an eerie avatar for the person pulling the strings from somewhere safely out of sight.
Announced earlier this year, SAW: Genesis is based on the horror franchise created by James Wan and Leigh Whannell. The game is being co-developed by Anshar Studios and Broken Mirror Games and published by Bloober Team.
SAW: Genesis can currently be wishlisted on Steam. No release date has been announced.
