20th Century Studios has released a second thrilling new trailer for Whalefall, and unlike the first look, this one shows us a whole lot of what happens after Austin Abrams gets swallowed by an enormous sperm whale.
Maybe a little too much?
Abrams, who broke out in Zach Cregger’s Weapons and will next lead Cregger’s Resident Evil, stars as a scuba diver searching for his deceased father’s remains when he finds himself directly in the path of an 80-foot, 60-ton sperm whale.
The new trailer shows Abrams desperately attempting to avoid being sucked into the whale’s mouth as it feeds, only to be swallowed whole.
And then things get really fucking wild.
We get a ton of new footage from inside the whale, where Abrams is trapped in this bizarre, claustrophobic nightmare and desperately searching for a way out. Making matters worse, he’s not exactly alone in there, with other sea creatures still alive inside the whale as his oxygen supply continues to disappear.
It’s essentially a ticking-clock survival thriller taking place inside a living animal.
The imagery is surprisingly beautiful and colorful, but there’s something absolutely terrifying about the scale of it all. Abrams is trapped inside this enormous creature, surrounded by darkness, water and God knows what else, with only one hour of oxygen to figure out how the hell he’s going to escape.
The film has been described as The Martian meets 127 Hours, and this trailer really sells that premise.
Brian Duffield directs the adaptation of Daniel Kraus’ acclaimed novel, with Josh Brolin, Elisabeth Shue, John Ortiz, Jane Levy, and Emily Rudd rounding out the cast.
Whalefall swims into theaters on October 16, 2026.
