Vacancy (2007)
Vacancy rips. This is full-throttle, exploitation filmmaking at its nastiest and most propulsive. Back in 2007, actors like Kate Beckinsale and Luke Wilson were totally down to lend credence to what amounts to a sleazy backwoods slasher, and their presence augments Vacancy’s grisly, gnarly thrills.
The duo is on the fritz, and after stopping at a roadside motel for the night on account of car troubles, they’re thrust into a nightmare when they discover said motel is really just a front for filming and distributing snuff films, and the proprietors have just cast them in the latest. It’s one of the late aughts’ most enduring gems, largely because Nimród Antal directs the hell out of the cramped motel, dragging us into secret tunnels, claustrophobic bathrooms, and hotel rooms with no way out. It remains a hoot, and since it’s streaming on Tubi, I’d say there is a Vacancy in your future.
Triangle (2009)
