Well, Stephen King likes this one.
The first trailer has arrived for Never After Dark, the supernatural horror film that has already been making waves on the festival circuit, and King calls the film “amazing and haunting.”
He isn’t alone.
The Black Phone and Sinister director Scott Derrickson calls the film “intelligent, unpredictable and bone-chilling,” adding that it’s “one of the best of the year.”
Written and directed by Dave Boyle (Man from Reno), Never After Dark stars Moeka Hoshi (Shōgun) as Airi, a wandering medium who helps restless spirits move on while accompanied by the ghost of her dead sister, Miku (Kurumi Inagaki).
Airi is summoned to an isolated country house to perform an exorcism, where she encounters a grotesque entity unlike anything she’s faced before. Digging into the history of the house only uncovers something worse, ultimately leaving Airi hunted by a threat that may not be supernatural at all.
The film also stars Kento Kaku, Mutsuo Yoshioka, Bokuzō Masana, and Tae Kimura.
And there’s already some serious hype behind this one. Never After Dark won the Grand Jury Prize for Feature Film at the 2026 Overlook Film Festival.
Magnolia Pictures will release Never After Dark in theaters on September 25.
