After more than two years, one of the more disturbing horror films out of the 2024 SXSW Film Festival is finally getting released.
Vertical has set Family for release on VOD and Digital this coming September 25, 2026.
Written and directed by Benjamin Finkel in his feature debut, Family had its world premiere in SXSW’s Midnighter section back in March 2024, where it also won the festival’s Kickstarter NextGen Award.
Our own Mary Beth McAndrews reviewed the film out of SXSW, writing, “Family may be over-ambitious but it’s still incredibly unsettling and disturbing in its violence.”
In the film, “A 10-year-old girl begins to believe her parents (Ruth Wilson, Ben Chaplin) are trying to kill her. Convinced a sinister spirit is to blame, she spirals into a haunting fantasy world that mirrors her deepest fears.”
And now we finally have a trailer, which is loaded with all sorts of unsettling imagery before ending on one particularly great scare.
