Paradise Lost, the next film from Yeon Sang-ho, the filmmaker behind Train to Busan, Colony, Peninsula, Psychokinesis, and Netflix’s Hellbound, has been acquired by Well Go USA ahead of its Toronto International Film Festival premiere next week.
Sounding like another unsettling blend of science fiction and human drama, “Paradise Lost centers on a grieving mother who recreates her deceased son using AI. But years later, her world is turned upside down when the son she believed had died suddenly reappears, forcing her to confront impossible questions about identity, grief, and what it truly means to be human.”
The film stars Kim Hyun-joo and Bae Hyeon-Seong, who reunite with Yeon after appearing in Hellbound.
“I am thrilled to present Paradise Lost to North American audiences through Well Go USA,” Yeon said. “‘Paradise Lost’ is a psychological thriller that dives deep into the abyss of a mother, caught between the son she resurrected in a virtual world through AI and the son who returns after being presumed dead.”
Paradise Lost will make its world premiere at TIFF this September.
