Zach Cregger (Weapons, Barbarian, Resident Evil) and Brian Duffield (No One Will Save You, Whalefall) are teaming up to bring Siren Head to the big screen, with Duffield set to direct the film for Warner Bros.
And according to Cregger, there’s already a “super cool” story behind the viral monster.
“But look, Siren Head, I think that the story that we have is super cool, and so whether it was an internet meme or not, I would be interested in telling this story,” Cregger told Deadline. “And I think that’s the lesson. It should stand on its own.”
Created by Canadian artist Trevor Henderson in 2018, Siren Head is a towering, skeletal creature with two sirens in place of a head that exploded online, inspiring fan art, videos, games and an entire mythology around the creature.
Warner Bros. landed the rights in a massive five-studio bidding war, with Cregger and Duffield co-writing the screenplay and Duffield directing. Roy Lee and Andrew Childs of Vertigo Entertainment, Scott Glassgold of 12:01 Films and Duffield through Jurassic Party Productions are producing alongside Cregger. Henderson is executive producing.
No plot details have been revealed, but Cregger’s comments make it clear they’re not simply banking on an internet meme with billions of views. Whatever they’ve cooked up, the story has to work on its own.
