Brendan Fraser’s ‘The Mummy’ Officially Begins Filming Today

Rick O’Connell is officially back.

Production begins today on Universal Pictures’ new The Mummy, which reunites Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz for the first time in 25 years.

Fraser himself broke the news over the weekend while attending the Deauville American Film Festival in France, where he received the festival’s Talent Award. During an interview with CANAL+, Fraser revealed that he had to be at work Monday morning, confirming that cameras would begin rolling today.

Fraser is reportedly heading from Deauville to Sky Studios in London, where at least part of the production will take place. The production is based in the UK and will also shoot in Morocco, bringing the franchise back to the desert for its latest adventure.

Behind the camera are Radio Silence filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (Ready or Not, Scream, Scream VI, Abigail), working from a screenplay by David Coggeshall (Orphan: First Kill, The Family Plan).

And they’re getting a surprising amount of the old band back together.

In addition to Fraser returning as Rick and Weisz returning as Evelyn O’Connell, John Hannah (The Mummy, The Mummy Returns) is back as Evelyn’s brother Jonathan Carnahan.

As Dread Central previously reported, Oded Fehr (The Mummy, The Mummy Returns, Resident Evil: Apocalypse) is also returning as Ardeth Bay, while Kevin J. O’Connor (Deep Rising, The Mummy, Van Helsing) is somehow returning as Beni.

Yes, Beni.

Considering how things went for him at the end of the original movie, that’s certainly interesting.

New to the franchise is Numan Acar (Spider-Man: Far From Home, Homeland), whose role is being kept under wraps. breakout was also reported by Deadline to be in early talks for a role this summer, although his casting has yet to be officially confirmed.
