Signs of the Swarm have unleashed an absolutely ridiculous cover of Rob Zombie’s “Dragula,” complete with a music video that pays homage to Zombie’s classic original.
And goddamn, are we getting old.
Zombie released “Dragula” as the first single from Hellbilly Deluxe in 1998, accompanied by the iconic video he directed himself. In it, Zombie cruises around in the Munster Koach with the band rocking out against colorful back-projected backgrounds, mixed with all sorts of vintage horror imagery.
Twenty-eight years ago.
Signs of the Swarm initially wanted to recreate the video almost shot for shot, but there was one problem.
“This video kind of spiraled out of control in the best way possible,” vocalist David Simonich explained. “We originally wanted to do a one-to-one recreation of the original video, but we couldn’t find the right car.”
Their solution was a Polaris Slingshot, which Simonich called the “polar opposite” of what they were originally looking for. From there, they decided to modernize the video along with the song and basically started fucking around.
The resulting video is completely ridiculous, with the band acting like goofballs and an increasingly insane collection of friends dropping by, including Bam Margera, Lorna Shore’s Will Ramos, August Burns Red’s Matt Greiner, Dying Fetus drummer Trey Williams, 156/Silence’s Jack Murray, The Last Ten Seconds of Life’s Tyler Beam, Galactic Empire’s Kevin Corkran, and pro skater Dalton Dern.
