‘Godzilla Minus Zero’ Trailer Reveals the King of the Monsters in All His Glory

TOHO and GKIDS have unleashed yet another trailer for Godzilla Minus Zero, and this one finally gives us our first glorious full look at Godzilla.

And holy shit, does he look spectacular.

Director Takashi Yamazaki appears to be doubling down on what made Godzilla Minus One so special in the first place. Yes, we’re here to watch Godzilla absolutely decimate everything in his path, but the previous movie worked because we actually gave a shit about the people trying to survive him. This latest trailer looks every bit as character-driven, continuing the story of the Shikishima family while Japan faces another seemingly impossible fight against Godzilla.

In fact, we’re speculating that Ghidorah might be the new antagonist. While he’s out of sight for now, the trailer seemingly makes his presence known. The iconic roar of Godzilla’s three-headed rival can be heard in the footage, while a dramatic moment showing Godzilla hurtling through the sky adds even more fuel to speculation that a colossal monster clash is coming this November.

Here’s the official synopsis:

“War reduced Japan to zero, and Godzilla plunged it into minus. Two years have passed since then, and the country has faced agonizing struggles to achieve recovery and finally reclaim its daily life.

“Just as humanity managed to cling to a hard-won peace, a new threat strikes, crushing hope in an instant.

“There is no third time. Everything ends here.”

Set in 1949, two years after the events of Godzilla Minus One, the sequel confirms what that film’s final moments teased: Godzilla wasn’t completely destroyed.

The trailer offers a glimpse at the latest kaiju extermination operation before finally revealing Godzilla in full, standing tall in all his terrifying glory. It’s an absolutely awe-inspiring, jaw-dropping shot, and considering this is the first Japanese production ever to be Filmed For IMAX, seeing the King of the Monsters at that scale is going to be something special.

The trailer also introduces as Makoto Aoyama, a genius weather forecaster assigned to the Disaster Response Bureau. joins as Dr. Ogata, while plays Akira Hagiwara, assistant to Professor Murakami ().
