Josh Hartnett (30 Days of Night, The Faculty) has a sea monster problem in Below, Netflix’s six-episode limited series arriving in full on October 8. The streamer has released the full trailer, giving us a taste of the aquatic chaos to come.
The footage is yet another series of close-ups of Hartnett’s intensely concerned face, but it does tease several moments of the creature wreaking havoc. We never actually get to see what it looks like, or even get much of an indication, although we do learn that it came from a melting iceberg. Encino Man style.
There are hints of supernatural occurrences, too, and the montage of increasingly chaotic footage at the end makes this look like it could be a fun little limited series.
Hartnett plays Calvin Penney, a Newfoundland fisherman fighting to protect his loved ones and preserve his disappearing livelihood as a mysterious sea creature terrorizes the local community. With his son Wade, played by Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things), in danger, Calvin teams up with marine researcher Fonda, played by Mackenzie Davis (Speak No Evil, The Turning), to investigate what’s lurking beneath the waves and uncover their island’s hidden history.
Jesse McKeown (The Umbrella Academy) created the series.
