Something wicked this way comes in the full official trailer for American Horror Story: 13, which premieres Thursday, September 24 at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT on FX and Hulu.
FX is bringing together familiar faces from across the anthology for what looks like one enormous supernatural showdown. There’s talk of impending doom, returning witches and enough franchise callbacks that longtime fans should be giggling with glee.
The returning characters include Jessica Lange (Cape Fear) as Constance Langdon, Sarah Paulson (Run) as Cordelia Goode, Angela Bassett (Vampire in Brooklyn) as Marie Laveau, Emma Roberts (Scream 4) as Madison Montgomery, Evan Peters (X-Men: Days of Future Past) as Kai Anderson and John Carroll Lynch (Zodiac) as Twisty the Clown.
It certainly looks like everyone is being gathered for a big battle. Against Satan? Some other harbinger of doom? I honestly couldn’t tell you. I haven’t kept up over the past few seasons, and I’m not going to pretend I suddenly understand how all these storylines fit together.
From the outside, this looks like a goofy, silly, over-the-top, convoluted mess of a fucking series that has gone on way too long. Bringing everyone back feels, to me, like a desperate attempt to keep people watching.
I checked out around American Horror Story: Hotel, the Lady Gaga (A Star Is Born) vampire era. I got tired of the bloated seasons that would take an idea and drag it out over way too many episodes. Frankly, I’m not a fan of this show or Ryan Murphy, and this trailer isn’t doing much to change that.
For those still invested, the new season begins with Ben, who takes a hospice job caring for a mysterious client in an eerie penthouse after his own near-death experience. Constance’s holiday gathering and the witches of Miss Robichaux’s Academy also factor into the unfolding story.
Murphy and Brad Falchuk created the series and executive produce this installment alongside Ned Martel and Charlie Carver.
