Universal Studios Japan Has a Terrifying ‘Ring’ Roller Coaster That Makes You Watch Sadako’s Cursed Tape

Universal Studios Japan has officially unleashed Sadako inside one of its roller coasters, and we have video from inside the terrifying experience.

Sadako’s Curse: Dark Horror Ride opened today, September 11, as part of Universal Studios Japan’s 15th anniversary celebration of Halloween Horror Nights. The limited-time attraction will continue terrorizing riders through January 4, 2027.

While the attraction doesn’t carry the Ring title, it is built entirely around Sadako, the long-haired supernatural nightmare at the center of the Japanese horror franchise. It’s basically a Ring-themed roller coaster, which sounds absolutely fucking terrifying.

According to Universal Studios Japan, the attraction takes over Space Fantasy: The Ride and sends guests racing at high speed through a facility infected by Sadako’s curse. Riders are robbed of their vision as the coaster plunges into near-total darkness, with Sadako repeatedly appearing no matter how desperately they attempt to escape her.

The experience appears to begin well before guests board the ride. In the footage below, television monitors fill the surrounding space with ominous images of Sadako as riders are seemingly brought into some kind of experiment. They’re told what happens to people who watch the cursed video—and then, naturally, they’re made to watch it themselves before being sent hurtling into the darkness.

It’s a brilliant way to make every rider part of the mythology. You’re no longer watching somebody else become cursed. You have watched the tape, the clock is ticking, and now Sadako is coming for you.

The ride-through footage is appropriately difficult to make out once the coaster gets moving, but that’s clearly the point. This is essentially a dark ride moving at roller-coaster speeds, using darkness, disorientation, sound, sudden imagery, and the constant threat of Sadako to scare the hell out of everyone onboard.
