‘Carrie’ Reveals Episode Titles as a Class Schedule—and “First Period” Is Perfect

Of course the first episode of Carrie is called “First Period.”

The episode titles for Mike Flanagan’s upcoming Prime Video series have been revealed through a brilliantly designed Ewen High School class schedule, complete with Carrie White’s photograph and handwritten name. All eight episodes arrive October 7.

And that opening title is just perfect. It works as the beginning of Carrie’s school day while nodding to the terrifying, humiliating experience that helps set Stephen King’s coming-of-age nightmare into motion.

The rest of the season follows the school-subject theme, culminating in “AP Physics.” Considering Carrie’s abilities, I’m guessing that lesson is going to get pretty messy.

Based on King’s debut novel, the series follows Carrie White, an isolated teenager raised under the control of her domineering mother. Entering high school exposes her to unfamiliar freedoms and vicious bullying, while her emerging telekinetic powers threaten to turn that cruelty into catastrophe.

Summer H. Howell (Curse of Chucky) plays Carrie, opposite Samantha Sloyan (Midnight Mass) as her mother, Margaret. The ensemble also includes Amber Midthunder (Prey), Matthew Lillard (Scream), and Siena Agudong (Resident Evil).

Flanagan, whose previous King adaptations include Gerald’s Game, Doctor Sleep, and The Life of Chuck, serves as showrunner, writer, director, and executive producer.
