Originally slated for a Valentine’s Day weekend release, we’ve now learned that Josh Ruben’s ‘Heart Eyes’ sequel has been bumped up!
Dread broke the news that writer-director Josh Ruben (Scare Me, Werewolves Within) was sharpening his knife for a Heart Eyes sequel and that both Olivia Holt and Mason Gooding would be returning.
Originally scheduled for a Valentine’s Day weekend release, Variety now reports that Heart Eyes 2 has been bumped up one week earlier to February 4th, 2028!
Screen Gems’ holiday slasher built momentum through strong word of mouth, leading to an unusually robust second weekend at the box office, a rarity for most films. It ultimately grossed $33 million worldwide, paving the way for sequel discussions.
In the film, a masked maniac with glowing red eyes returns every Valentine’s Day to slaughter unsuspecting couples. When a cynical ad executive and her hopelessly romantic colleague become the next target, they decide to fight back and end the reign of terror.
Heart Eyes starred Olivia Holt and Mason Gooding as Jay Simmonds and Ally McCabe, respectively, both of whom survived the murders. The duo is confirmed ot be in talks to return.
Ruben is confirmed to return to direct and co-write the sequel script with Darcy Fowler, from a story by Christopher Landon and Michael Kennedy.
Paramount will co-produce and co-finance Heart Eyes 2 along with Spyglass Media Group and handle global distribution.
