Summer’s over, but Eli Roth has one more frozen treat waiting for you.
Ice Cream Man, the latest horror movie from the director of Cabin Fever, Hostel, and Thanksgiving, is now available on Digital for premium rental or purchase.
The film follows an idyllic summer town that descends into madness when an ice cream man, played by Ari Millen (Orphan Black), serves children sweet treats with horrifying results. Before long, the kids are unleashing bloody chaos on their school and community.
If you missed the full trailer we shared earlier this summer, it offered a pretty good indication of what Roth was cooking up: killer kids, outrageous gore, and some seriously nasty playground activities.
“I have a scene where the kids are having fun, so they’re playing jump rope with guts and tetherball with a head,” he told us.
Well, there goes recess.
Roth explained that the film initially takes its cues from the scrappy kids’ comedies of the late ’70s and early ’80s before turning into a full-scale nightmare. While the affected children terrorize their school, a small group who avoided the ice cream have to find a way out.
