A brand-new Clayface TV spot is here, and Matt Hagen is having a hell of a time keeping his face together.
The 30-second spot offers some shocking new footage of Tom Rhys Harries (White Lines) losing control of his face in front of a model at a club. His features begin mutating, sending her screaming. It’s a nasty little fright, and another indication that DC is going full-blown body horror with this one.
But the most interesting shot gives us a taste of the larger transformation still to come: a hand boiling, mutating, and growing while the rest of the creature remains out of frame. It immediately reminded me of Tetsuo in Akira.
That doesn’t mean they’ve spoiled the big reveal. Empire reports that Clayface’s final form is being kept out of the promotional materials, with Harries describing it as “fucking sick.” This looks like a little taste of what they’re holding back.
We already know Clayface is rated R for “strong bloody violence, gore, language, some nudity and brief drug use.” Now we get to see just how far director James Watkins (Eden Lake, Speak No Evil) takes it into David Cronenberg’s The Fly territory.
Written by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini, the film follows an actor whose career is destroyed after a crime boss leaves him disfigured. An experimental treatment restores his appearance, but comes with horrifying consequences for his body and mind.
Warner Bros. releases Clayface in theaters October 23, 2026.
