47 Meters Down: The Wreck has received its official MPA rating, bringing another update on the third installment in the shark-horror franchise.
The film is rated PG-13 for “violent content/bloody images, peril, some strong language and smoking.”
Patrick Lussier (My Bloody Valentine 3D, Drive Angry) directs this time, with franchise filmmaker Johannes Roberts producing and co-writing the screenplay with Ernest Riera.
As Dread Central exclusively revealed earlier this year, the cast includes Ron Livingston (The Conjuring), Sadie Stanley (Karate Kid: Legends), and Bo Bragason (The Radleys).
The story follows a father hoping to reconnect with his daughter during a scuba-diving trip to a shipwreck. When an accident takes their dive leader out of commission, the pair find themselves trapped inside, with limited oxygen and great white sharks threatening their escape.
Speaking with Dread Central in January, Roberts said he expected The Wreck to be the most frightening installment yet.
“The movie is super scary and tense,” he told us.
And the series already has ambitions beyond a trilogy. In that same report, Dread Central confirmed plans for a fourth film, with Roberts expressing enthusiasm for another installment while keeping its details under wraps.
A firm release date for 47 Meters Down: The Wreck has yet to be announced.
