“It’s eating him.”
A new clip from The Swallow turns a set of dropped keys into a seriously disgusting problem. The creature feature from Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer, the duo behind Starry Eyes and 2019’s Pet Sematary, screens tonight at Beyond Fest following its world premiere at Fantastic Fest.
One of the best scenes in Lionsgate’s Beware Boiúna, opening this week, involves a girl trapped in quicksand while the snake circles her. Now we’re getting an entire feature dedicated to that dangerous, earthy slop… with the added problem that it appears to be hungry.
In the clip, a group watches as their friend attempts to retrieve some keys from the sludge. When he pulls his hand back up, it becomes clear that sinking isn’t the only thing he needs to worry about. The stuff appears to be eating his flesh.
The effects look phenomenal here, and it’s so fucking gross.
Watch the clip below.
As we previously reported, the premise is pretty simple: a group of young people finds themselves terrorized by sentient, quicksand-like sludge that wants to swallow them. Kölsch and Widmyer take that setup into the woods, where a trip off the beaten path leaves a group of friends lost and facing ground that has developed a will of its own.
The Swallow screens tonight, October 1, at 10 p.m. at the MUBI Theatre at the Aero, with a Q&A featuring Kölsch and Widmyer. Find screening and ticket information through .
