Dread Central has the exclusive trailer premiere forLove Kills, an action-packed vampire movie arriving on VOD and digital platforms October 30. Just in time to squeeze some more blood into your Halloween viewing slate.
The trailer calls to mind ’90s horror mixed with Blade, with a romance pulling us into a stylish, violent vampire underworld. I’m pretty sure I caught this one on the festival or market circuit and remember quite enjoying it. It’s a really good time, and this looks like the perfect season to revisit it.
Written and directed by Luiza Shelling Tubaldini, making her solo feature directing debut, Love Kills adapts Danilo Beyruth’s Brazilian graphic novel.
The story follows Marcos (Gabriel Stauffer), a waiter at a rundown São Paulo café who becomes fascinated by a mysterious regular. Helena (Thais Lago) always sits in the same corner and orders a coffee she never drinks. When Marcos tries to rescue her one night, he discovers she doesn’t need his help: she’s a centuries-old vampire being hunted by a rival clan.
Suddenly, his crush comes with a vampire war attached.
Tubaldini brings that story to the streets of downtown São Paulo, using its supernatural romance to explore outcast women, trauma, and survival. Iuri Saraiva, Erom Cordeiro, and Marat Descartes also star.
Love Kills won Best Sound at the Rio de Janeiro International Film Festival and screened at both Sitges and the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival. The film runs 95 minutes.
