Luca Guadagnino has given an update on his adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’ ‘American Psycho’, and it’s a major bummer.
Back in August, we reported that actor Drew Starkey had read the script for Luca Guadagnino‘s American Psycho adaptation, and that it was “amazing”. That was an exciting update for multiple reasons, namely that Starkey had been rumored to be in the running to play the title killer, Patrick Bateman. Now, it sounds like the film may not happen at all.
In a chat with Vanity Fair, Guadagnino was asked about American Psycho, to which he replied, “Maybe one day I would do it.“
Maybe one day? Oh boy. That sure doesn’t sound like someone gearing up to shoot the damn thing.
Still, that doesn’t mean it’s not happening, nor has Lionsgate announced the project as dead. But Guadagnino’s answer doesn’t offer hope that it’ll happen anytime soon.
Based on the novel by Bret Easton Ellis, the first American Psycho adaptation was directed by Mary Harron and released in 2000. It followed yuppie businessman Patrick (played by a creepy Christian Bale) as he descends into madness and murder. It’s a brilliant classic, and one I was greatly intrigued to see Guadagnino tackle.
Like all good things, it sounds like we’ll have to wait for this one…if it ever moves forward at all.
