Ten years of work. Roughly 190,000 subscribers. An entire livelihood gone over a Hellraiser: Revival gameplay video.
French creator j0nathan is pleading for help after YouTube permanently removed his channel, according to IGN’s report. The reason cited was its policy on sexual content and nudity, despite his saying he covered the game’s nudity with black boxes.
There’s an important distinction here: he marked the video “Not Made for Kids,” but didn’t apply an age restriction. Saber Interactive had advised creators to use appropriate age restrictions and content labels.
Still, losing an entire channel over this feels wildly disproportionate.
His public appeals were circulating on October 8, and as of today, October 12, he’s still asking for help, now posting in English to reach more people.
Alright @TeamYouTube , I’m going to do this in English; perhaps they’ll actually reply for once. I am contacting you one last time regarding the removal of my channel which had 190,000 subscribers, based on erroneous grounds. It consisted simply of video game gameplay, not content intended for sexual gratification. I am requesting a final, serious review of my case by a human before pursuing further remedies under the DSA and initiating legal proceedings with my lawyer. Above all, I would prefer an amicable resolution.

Nobody should be surprised that Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival is disgusting, sexual, violent, and transgressive. Those of us who grew up with Clive Barker’s work have seen such sights. Excess is part of the point.
As we’ve discussed on Dread Central, the game follows Aidan Lynch into the Labyrinth to rescue his girlfriend, Sunny, from the Cenobites. Its nightmare is built around pain, pleasure, desire, and devotion. Treating footage from that story as though its purpose is sexual gratification deserves serious scrutiny.
