Mike Flanagan did something extremely cool with Carrie, his new adaptation of Stephen King’s novel, now streaming in full on Prime Video.
As a viewer pointed out on X, the title card gets progressively redder with every episode. What begins as a pale pink gradually deepens into a dark, bloody red as the eight-episode season approaches its finale.
Put them all together, and the effect becomes impossible to miss.
This insane foreshadowing of the title cards getting bloodier every episode is so peak.#Carrie https://t.co/sgvuGAKwjb

As a student of film, I love subtle decisions like this. It’s such a small change from one episode to the next, but it’s meaningful. The title itself is moving toward the horror we know is coming.
To me, it works on an almost subconscious level. Whether you consciously register the shift or not, that familiar title starts to feel more unsettling as you move through the season. The story is getting darker, and the opening is quietly getting there with it.
The series follows Carrie White, played by Summer H. Howell (Curse of Chucky), as her father’s death forces her out of a sheltered upbringing and into public high school. Between her controlling mother, Margaret, played by Samantha Sloyan (Hush), a viral bullying scandal, and her emerging telekinetic abilities, finding her place becomes increasingly terrifying.
In our full-season review, Daniel Kurland scored the series 4/5, calling it “an extremely rewarding update of King’s debut novel.” He praised its exploration of adolescence and fresh approach to the material, while noting that it doesn’t surpass Brian De Palma’s original film.
Flanagan serves as showrunner, writer, and executive producer, and directs four episodes. King also executive produces. The cast includes (), (), (), and ().
