Another vampire has arrived for your Halloween watchlist.
Luc Besson’sDracula is now streaming on Paramount+, with the filmmaker’s blend of horror, fantasy, and romance joining the service’s Peak Screaming collection today.
Caleb Landry Jones (Get Out) stars as a 15th-century prince who renounces God after the brutal murder of his wife, played by Zoë Bleu. Cursed with eternal life, he becomes Dracula and embarks on a bloody quest to reclaim his lost love. Standing in his way is a relentless priest, played by Christoph Waltz (Inglourious Basterds), determined to end his immortal existence.
Dread’s Josh Korngut wasn’t particularly taken with this version, scoring it 2.5 out of 5 in his review. While acknowledging its craftsmanship, he found the romance thin and the familiar story lacking danger.
We also spoke with composer Danny Elfman for an exclusive interview about his return to gothic horror and the film’s score. “What Luc cared about most was the romantic theme — Dracula’s 400-year search for his lost love,” Elfman explained.
Want a taste before committing? Our exclusive clip puts Jones and Waltz face to face as the priest offers Dracula salvation. After centuries of being denied death, the vampire isn’t exactly receptive.
Besson wrote and directed the adaptation of Bram Stoker’s classic novel. Matilda De Angelis, Ewens Abid, David Shields, and Guillaume de Tonquédec round out the cast.
