Tubi is continuing its partnership with R.L. Stine, announcing a live-action adaptation of The Babysitter at this past weekend’s New York Comic-Con.
The film arrives in 2027, and the first teaser introduces another young heroine with a nightmare ahead of her.
Sixteen-year-old Jenny needs money for a prestigious writing program, so she takes a babysitting job despite a prowler terrorizing girls across town. Then the threatening phone calls begin. With a dangerous fugitive also surfacing in town, Jenny starts questioning everyone around her as the danger closes in.
A babysitting job, threatening calls, and a growing list of suspects. There’s a reason this kind of setup keeps bringing us back.
Trevor Calverley directs from a screenplay by Jem Garrard, who also serves as an executive producer alongside Lance Samuels, Joan Waricha, and Jane Stine.
Blue Ice produces the film, with Dan Bernard, Yvonne Bernard, Tebogo Maila, Darren Cameron, and Adam Friedlander serving as producers. A specific premiere date and cast have yet to be announced.
Meanwhile, Tubi’s Stine partnership already has another Halloween offering ready to watch. As we previously reported, R.L. Stine’s Pumpkinhead 2 premiered October 9 and is now streaming free. Cassandra Peterson (Elvira: Mistress of the Dark) joins that sequel as a mysterious witch helping confront a new curse threatening the town of Redhaven.
Check out the Babysitter teaser above. Could Jenny be the next Stine character to get a movie franchise of her own?
