One Halloween episode apparently wasn’t enough for The Simpsons this year. FOX kicked off two consecutive Sundays of horror last night with “Treehouse of Horror Presents: The Revengening,” sending a killer through Springfield ahead of “Treehouse of Horror XXXVII” on October 25.
According to FOX’s official episode listing, “The Revengening” finds Springfield under attack on Halloween, with the killer hacking through town and no member of the Simpson family safe. The episode aired October 18, giving the annual Halloween celebration an extra helping of slasher mayhem.
The poster certainly sells it. A hooded killer with a bloodied blade towers over Homer, Superintendent Chalmers, Professor Frink, and Dewey Largo, with the whole thing styled like a horror movie you’d pull off a video store shelf. Nick Dahan wrote the episode, with Eddie Rosas directing.
Next up, “Treehouse of Horror XXXVII” airs Sunday, October 25, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FOX. The network teases three stories involving a terrifying new perspective on marriage for Marge, a frightening adventure for Bart and Santa’s Little Helper, and a driving lesson for Homer.
We previously shared FOX’s Halloween mailer and artwork, which gave Springfield a Nightmare Before Christmas makeover, including Bart as Jack Skellington, Marge as Sally, and Santa’s Little Helper as Zero. Between that and the slasher poster above, Springfield is getting plenty of mileage out of Halloween this year.
