Well, this is much different than I anticipated.
A24 has released a new trailer for Jeremy Saulnier’s (Green Room) Slayground, coming to theaters January 29, 2027, and that earlier teaser gave me a very different idea of what we were getting.
I thought this was going to be some weird found footage, hidden camera, Paranormal Activity-style haunted attraction movie. Instead, we’re getting a traditional horror movie with all the bells and whistles, and the nightmare seemingly extends well beyond the haunt itself.
The trailer centers on a haunted attraction called Slayground, where a bunch of people appear to have been brutally murdered. From there, we get a flurry of shots showing the aftermath, including what looks like a full-blown law enforcement raid. There’s clearly a lot more going on here than a killer chasing people through a Halloween maze.
“Halloween is only the beginning,” teases A24. The official premise follows scare actor “Metal Mike” Graves, who wakes up inside the attraction surrounded by his coworkers’ bodies, with no memory of how they got there. As a statewide manhunt closes in, he races to uncover the truth, even if the trail leads straight back to him.
I’m going to need to watch this one again to get a better sense of how all these pieces fit together. But with Saulnier behind the camera, this looks like a completely new and unique experience. The earlier teaser sold me on the haunt. Now I want to know what the fuck happened inside it.

As yesterday’s poster revealed, we’re getting the Halloween campaign now and the movie in January. If it delivers, hopefully we’ll have something new to revisit next October. What do you think of the trailer?
