IADOWR Films has set Molly C. Quinn (Agnes) and Currie Graham (Cabin Fever: Patient Zero) to lead REM, an original psychological horror thriller written and directed by Peyv Raz, Dread Central can exclusively announce. Production is now underway.
The film is produced by Eduard Osipov (Hunting Season, Skeletons in the Closet) and Raja “RJ” Collins (Best Pancakes in the Country, Hunting Season, Carousel).
Graham Rogers (Ray Donovan), José Zúñiga (Twilight), and Taylor Aronson (Grace) have joined the film in supporting roles, with Sean Faris (Never Back Down), Helena Mattsson (666 Park Avenue), and Danny Nucci (Titanic) in smaller but pivotal roles.
Inspired in part by experiences a close family member of Raz had as a child, REM draws on the unsettling phenomenon of night terrors and the mythology surrounding the Hat Man, a shadowy figure that has appeared in accounts across cultures and generations.
The film combines psychological and supernatural horror with mystery, telling a contemporary story from an unexpected perspective while challenging audiences’ assumptions about the kind of story they are watching.
“REM is absolutely a horror film, but horror is the vehicle, not the entire point,” Raz said. “There is a very current and human story underneath it. We want audiences to experience that story as it unfolds, without being told in advance where it’s going.”
