Instagram user devilscoatfactory went through the Hellraiser maze at Universal Studios Hollywood’s Halloween Horror Nights with a Super 8 camera, […]
As we detailed in the official maze announcement, the attraction pulls from Hellraiser, Hellbound: Hellraiser II, and Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth. Guests venture through locations including Frank Cotton’s attic, the Channard Institute, and the Labyrinth, with Doug Bradley returning to voice Pinhead for both the Hollywood and Orlando haunted houses. That alone makes this a pretty special year for fans.
Our own Joe Russo called the Hollywood maze “far more pleasure than pain” in his Halloween Horror Nights rundown, praising its mix of gruesome scares and cosmic imagery.
Meanwhile, Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival is out now, bringing Bradley’s Pinhead into a new survival horror game that we’ve been talking about quite a bit here on Dread Central. Christian McKnight gave it four out of five stars in our review, acknowledging some frustrating gameplay while writing, “But I had a damn good time playing it. And it felt like Hellraiser.” Its new accolades trailer collects more of the praise for its violence, gore, and depravity.
Between the game, the haunted houses, and fans making things like this, it feels like Pinhead and Hellraiser are having a bit of a renaissance. A Clive Barker renaissance, too, which I’m very much here for. Hopefully, all this excitement leads to a proper revival of the film franchise. There’s clearly still an appetite for this world, and I’d love to see it back on the big screen.
