Adaptation of Horror Game ‘Mouthwashing’ In the Works from Karyn Kusama and Scott Derrickson
Sony and Scott Derrickson are producing an adaptation of the horror game ‘Mouthwashing’, with Karyn Kusama set to direct!

Big news for Karyn Kusama (Jennifer’s Body) fans. Hey, that’s me!
Ten days ago, we reported that an adaptation of the horror video game Mouthwashing was in the works. Now, THR reports that Sony is teaming with Scott Derrickson (Sinister) to bring it to the big screen! The move comes after the studio’s massive success with Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil.
Derrickson is not, however, directing. Kusama has been tapped for that role, directing from a script by Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay. The trio worked together on one of Kusama’s most well-regarded horror features, The Invitation. If you haven’t seen it, it’s a nerve-wracking must.
Developed by Wrong Organ and published by Critical Reflex, Mouthwashing “follows five crew members stranded aboard the space freighter Tulpar, which crash-lands on an asteroid. Dwindling supplies, isolation, and mounting paranoia expose the fractures between the crew.”
Watch the Bizarre Trailer for the Game
I was going to say the game sounds vaguely like Among Us, but based on that trailer…I’m not sure what to compare it to. What I can say is, it looks trippy, creepy, and seriously fucked up. Combine that with Kusama directing a space horror film and Derrickson producing? Holy shit, this could be great.
Seriously, I love this for Kusama. I’ve always considered her an underrated yet incredibly talented filmmaker. Jennifer’s Body was unfairly dismissed at the box office, but has (rightly) endured with a massive cult following. is one of the more chilling films revolving around cults from the last decade or so. Not to mention her work on shows like and . I’ll be there day one for.
