Deadline reports that the film is part of a trio of movies Narrative Global Sales is bringing to the AFM market.
Penned by Kanell as well, the film “follows Jonah, a reclusive scientist studying fungi who, in the wake of a cosmic event, discovers she is trapped in a simulation powered by the very system she helped create.”
Justin Chien (Avatar: The Last Airbender),Alexis Louder (Copshop), and Frank Crim (Dexter) also star.
James Ward Byrkit (Coherence) is on as an executive producer, alongside Sarah Marie Flores and Lawrence Mattis of Lilly Wachowski’s Anarchists United. Producers are Thang Ho, T.C. Barrera, and Ahbra Perry.
Kanell has directed various shorts, as well as a segment in the horror anthology Dead by Midnight (Y2Kill), but this will be the first time she’ll truly get to flex her directorial muscles with a feature-length pic that sounds intriguing.
Of course, genre fans know Kanell all too well from her tragic role as Tara in the first Terrifier film. You can also find her in films such as The Buildout, Faceless After Dark, and Renfield.
