Set in 1949, two years after the events of Godzilla Minus One, the survivors learn that not only was Godzilla not destroyed, but a new monster has emerged. To defeat it, they’ll need to turn to an ally they never could’ve imagined…Godzilla.
Following the Oscar-winning visual effects of Godzilla Minus One, Takashi Yamazaki returns to direct the sequel, which was shot entirely in Japan using high-definition digital cameras certified by IMAX and optimized specifically for IMAX presentation.
In his lukewarm review of the film for Dread, Rory Doherty referred to it as “big, monstrous, and confused”.
While I disagree in some respects, I will admit that Minus Zero isn’t quite on the level of Minus One, as it attempts to replicate some of what worked the first time around with mixed results. But if you’re looking for a spectacular Godzilla movie with real human stakes and brutal monster destruction, Minus Zero has the goods.
If nothing else, this trailer displays that in a big way.
Godzilla Minus Zero is now in theaters. Run, don’t walk, to see it on the biggest and loudest screen you can possibly find. Thank me later.
