Back in 1993, Universal Cartoon Studios was developing Escape from Jurassic Park, an animated sequel to Steven Spielberg’s movie. The show never made it into full production, but the team got far enough to animate a pitch trailer. On Halloween, Jurassic Outpost’s Chris Pugh shared the 58-second reel.
As scary as Jurassic Park was, kids loved it. There were toys, games, and just about every tie-in you could imagine, so a cartoon made sense. What I like about this pitch is how dark it looks. Dr. Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler, and the kids are right back in danger, and from the looks of the dinosaurs coming after them, Universal was perfectly happy to scare those kids all over again.
LOST MEDIA: In 1993, an animated series titled ESCAPE FROM JURASSIC PARK was in development.
It was eventually cancelled before full production; however, not before a lot of work was done, including a pitch trailer.
At long last, that trailer has been unearthed. https://t.co/U1j79taPLf
What would possess anybody who survived that first movie to go back?
The first-season outline published by Jurassic Outpost actually has a pretty good answer. John Hammond recruits Grant, Sattler, and Ian Malcolm to save the dinosaurs on Isla Nublar. They agree on the condition that the island becomes a scientific preserve.
Hammond, of course, still wants to open his park. As for Lex and Tim, they’ve moved in with their grandfather after their parents’ divorce, and the thing that worries Hammond about those two is that they’re still more fascinated by the dinosaurs than they are afraid of them. Which sounds about right for the kids who grew up watching Jurassic Park.
