Once you know where Rob Savage had his actors look in Other Mommy, it’s the kind of thing you’ll want to go back and watch for. Dread Central has an exclusive 86-second clip from the home-release featurette “Breaking Rules with Other Mommy,” and there are some wild behind-the-scenes shots of the creature in her different forms. My favorite detail, though, is how Savage could make you suspect she was in the room before anybody did anything particularly creepy.
Josh Malerman, executive producer and author of Incidents Around the House, explains what the entity needs from Bela. “There’s something vampiric there,” he says. Bela has to invite Other Mommy in. And who’s a little girl more likely to say yes to than somebody she already trusts?
Savage worked that idea into the way the film was shot. When Bela talks to Other Mommy, she looks straight down the lens. Later, when Savage wants you to wonder whether someone else might be the creature, he has that actor look just off the lens. It’s close enough to remind you of those conversations with Bela, even if you haven’t consciously picked up on what the two shots have in common.
“We were looking all throughout the movie for ways to entrap the audience into that feeling of paranoia,” Savage explains.
Bela has to invite Other Mommy in. As author Josh Malerman puts it, “There’s something vampiric there.” Our exclusive behind-the-scenes clip shows how Rob Savage uses that idea to make you suspicious of the people Bela trusts. ‘OTHER MOMMY’ arrives on Digital November 10, followed by 4K UHD and Blu-ray December 29.

Jessica Chastain puts the danger pretty simply: “So you never really know who you can trust.” Keep an eye on the footage around those interviews. You get to see several of Other Mommy’s faces in the space of a minute and a half. For a closer look at one of the nastier ones, makeup artist Jeremy Selenfriend shared photos and footage of the creature in “attack mode”, performed by .
