We Finally Found Sam Raimi’s Delta 88 Hidden in ‘Evil Dead Burn’

Now that Evil Dead Burn is available to watch at home on Premium Digital, horror fans finally have the chance to do what simply wasn’t possible during theatrical screenings: pause, rewind, and hunt for every hidden Easter egg.

That’s exactly what I spent my morning doing.

And I’m excited to report that I finally found Sam Raimi’s legendary 1973 Oldsmobile Delta 88.

Better yet, it was hiding in plain sight.

Before the film’s release, director Sébastien Vaniček confirmed during a Reddit AMA that the iconic Delta 88 had made its way into Evil Dead Burn.

“The Oldsmobile, yes! We had it, we hid it in the movie, so you have to keep an eye open to see it.”

That answer sent fans searching. For weeks, nobody could confidently point to where the famous car appeared. Some guessed it was parked somewhere outside the house. Others thought it might flash by in the background during one of the film’s many chaotic set pieces. More recently, fans began zeroing in on a collection of family photographs hanging inside the house, but nobody could prove exactly which frame contained the car.

Now that the movie can be viewed frame by frame, the mystery appears to be solved.

At roughly the one-hour mark, during the sequence in which the grandmother rides her stair lift upstairs, the camera briefly lingers on a wall covered with framed family photographs. Most viewers—including myself during both theatrical viewings—immediately locked onto one image in particular: a photograph of Bruce Campbell’s Ashley J. Williams.
