Breaking: Gareth Edwards Exits ‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ Over “Creative Differences”

Universal Pictures’ next trip to Jurassic World has hit a major speed bump.

Gareth Edwards will no longer direct the sequel to last year’s Jurassic World Rebirth, with sources telling The Hollywood Reporter that the filmmaker has departed the project over “creative differences.”

Edwards had been expected to return after successfully relaunching the franchise with Rebirth, which grossed approximately $869 million worldwide in 2025. Considering those numbers, Universal wasted little time getting another installment moving.

The good news is that the sequel itself remains very much alive.

According to the site, Jurassic Park and Jurassic World Rebirth screenwriter David Koepp has already written the script, while Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey are expected to return.

No replacement director has been announced, but with Koepp’s screenplay already in place and Universal clearly eager to keep the dinosaurs roaring after Rebirth‘s massive box office, expect the search to move quickly.
