Neon and Blumhouse Atomic Monster have teamed on the horror pic ‘Lust’, written/directed by YouTube creator Spencer Lackey.
Add yet another YouTuber to the list of talent getting snatched up by Hollywood as the industry searches for the next Curry Barker (Obsession) and Kane Parsons (Backrooms).
THR reports that Neon has teamed with Blumhouse Atomic Monster and Spooky Pictures on Lust, a feature horror film from digital creator Spencer Lackey, who wrote and will direct the project.
At this time, there are no details on the plot.
Producers include Steven Schneider for Spooky Pictures, with Jason Blum and James Wan producing for Blumhouse Atomic Monster.
Neon and Blumhouse Atomic Monster are co-financing the project.
Lackey has spent years building an audience with short-form horror. Mike Flanagan produced his liminal-space short You Are Here, which was on the festival circuit last year.
Lackey told Dread last year, “Industry folks are starting to take digital creators more seriously. Sure, there’s a difference between making a TikTok and making a feature, but a lot of the same creative muscles are being exercised.”
That’s certainly the case, as Lackey is just one of many digital creators who have been courted by the industry in the last few months. You could say Hollywood has a lust for hot horror talent right now. As they should. Because horror never dies. It just keeps on making bank.
