Exclusive ‘Gator Face’ Behind-the-Scenes Footage Reveals Its Brutal Practical Gore

Gator Face has completed its festival run and is coming home next week, but before it sinks its teeth into Digital and VOD, Dread Central has an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the making of this seriously nasty swamp-set slasher.

Spoiler warning: The footage below contains a montage of some of the film’s biggest and bloodiest moments. If you want to experience every kill completely fresh, you may want to wait until the movie arrives on September 15.

Everyone else can watch writer/director Padraig Reynolds (Open 24 Hours) and his crew filming several of the most talked-about sequences in Gator Face. The footage offers a great look at the practical gore effects, creature attacks, and on-set chaos that went into creating the film’s brutal survival nightmare.

A Dread Original Production, Gator Face follows a group of friends whose Florida vacation becomes a blood-soaked fight for survival when they’re hunted through the swamps by a savage cult. Their attackers capture victims and feed them to ravenous alligators as offerings to an ancient reptilian god.

The film smashes together masked-killer carnage, creature-feature thrills, backwoods horror, and cult mythology, landing somewhere between the sun-soaked nightmare of Midsommar and the raw survival brutality of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, The Hills Have Eyes, and Crawl.

Reynolds and his crew used live alligators captured on set alongside handcrafted, in-camera gore effects from Russel FX, the Los Angeles-based special makeup effects studio whose credits include Hellraiser (2022), The Ritual, and VFW.
