Cinema legend Martin Scorsese is set to executive produce the psychological horror film ‘Trees Are Watching’.
When cinema god Martin Scorsese is involved in a project, we pay attention. Ahead of its world premiere at TIFF, the filmmaker has come aboard psychological horror film Trees Are Watching as an executive producer, reports Deadline.
The film “follows Darya (Eva Green), a novelist who returns with her deaf daughter to her hometown of Mardin, where memories of the past, a Kurdish legend and the destruction of the surrounding landscape begin to converge.”
Sounds like an environmental horror film to me. Not a surprise, considering the planet’s going to hell.
Bahman Ghobadi wrote and directed the film.
As the outlet notes, Scorsese has been a longtime friend of the filmmaker. In 2012, he even presented Ghobadi’s Rhino Season during its World Premiere at TIFF.
Ghobadi described the film as “shaped in part by the nightmares that have followed his 18 years of exile and his reflections on the connection between humanity and the natural world.”
Producers include Seyfi Sahin, Bahman Ghobadi, Lydia Dean Pilcher and Golriz Ehtiati. Serving as executive producers alongside Scorsese are Lucas Akoskin and Bahoz Nasradin.
The film is presented by Open the Door and is a MIJ Film production.
