Missed your trip to Camp Miasma in theaters? You can check in from home this weekend.
MUBI’s surreal psychological slasher Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma arrives on premium VOD tomorrow.
Written and directed by Jane Schoenbrun (I Saw the TV Glow, We’re All Going to the World’s Fair), the film stars Hannah Einbinder (Hacks) and Gillian Anderson (The X-Files, Hannibal).
In the film, a young filmmaker is hired to resurrect a slasher franchise that has been run into the ground by lousy sequels. Determined to bring back the original movie’s final girl, she visits the reclusive actress who played her, sending both women into a surreal nightmare of desire, fear, and bloodshed.
And we were pretty fucking enthusiastic about this one.
Dread Central’s Ashliene McMenamy awarded the film five stars in her review out of Fantasia, calling it “a funny, sexy, and wildly subversive masterpiece.” She also praised Einbinder’s performance as her best work yet and described the film as Schoenbrun’s warmest and funniest.
The ensemble includes Jasmin Savoy Brown (Scream), Jack Haven (I Saw the TV Glow), Patrick Fischler (Mulholland Drive), Amanda Fix (Lowlifes), and Zach Cherry (Severance).
