Josh Cooley to Pen Adaptation of Survival Horror Game ’99 Nights in the Forest’ for 20th Century Studios
Josh Cooley, the director behind ‘Toy Story 4′, is set to pen an adaptation of the hit survival horror game ’99 Nights in the Forest’.
With Resident Evil about to infect theaters, other studios are getting in on the survival horror game adaptation trend. THR reports that 20th Century Studios has picked up the theatrical film rights to the popular video game, 99 Nights in the Forest.
Developed by Grandma’s Favourite Games, 99 Nights is an action-survival game where players must survive 99 nights in a haunted forest while rescuing children and encountering nightmarish creatures.
Josh Cooley (Toy Story 4) will pen the script.
At this time, we don’t have any plot details for Cooley’s take.
Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert are also on board as producers.
Executive producers include the game’s developers, Alec Kieft, Matthew Hufton and Cameron Angland, as well as Romel Adam and Jose Cañas.
Debuting in 2025, the game was a hit, becoming the seventh-most-played game of all time on Roblox.
As for Cooley, he wrote the script for Inside Out and directed Toy Story 4 and Transformers One. So, I have to imagine his take on 99 Nights will be family-friendly, but you never know. He’s a talented filmmaker, though, so I’m more than ready to get lost in the woods with him.
