With Jason Momoa exiting the project, it sounds like ‘Reacher’s’ Alan Ritchson is in line to star in Sony’s adaptation of ‘Helldivers’.
Back in June, it was announced that star Jason Momoa (Supergirl) had exited the action-adventure flick Helldivers, a movie version of the popular video game.
Now, Deadline reports that Alan Ritchson (pictured above in War Machine) is in talks to star in the PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures’ film adaptation, which is still being directed by Justin Lin (Fast & Furious).
Although the plot hasn’t been confirmed, the shooter-style video game follows an elite unit of soldiers — known as Helldivers — who battle alien creatures that are threatening to destroy the fictional planet of Super Earth.
Helldivers was released in 2015 by Arrowhead Game Studios. A sequel, Helldivers 2, launched nearly a decade later in 2024. Producers on the Helldivers film include Hutch Parker, PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash, and Lin through his company Perfect Storm Entertainment.
Sony Pictures and PlayStation are backing the movie, which is slated to release in theaters on November 10, 2027.
