Jessica Rothe has already earned her place among our favorite modern horror stars with Happy Death Day. But there’s another masked killer she’d love to meet.
While promoting Beware Boiúna during a Reddit AMA, Rothe was asked which classic slasher franchise she would choose to join. Her answer was short and sweet:
“Friday the 13th!”
Somebody get her to Camp Crystal Lake.
Rothe brought so much personality, humor, and heart to Tree Gelbman that I’d happily watch her go up against Jason Voorhees. This is simply her wish-list pick, of course, rather than a casting announcement. But it’s a damn good one.
There’s also a reported Jason Universe project in the works while we wait for a proper studio-driven Friday the 13th movie to finally come together. Whether that creates an opportunity for Rothe remains to be seen.
In the meantime, she has plenty of horror on her plate. Rothe stars alongside Jane Levy (Evil Dead) in Joshua Giuliano’s River, the TIFF slasher picked up by Universal Pictures and Blumhouse and reportedly headed to theaters January 15, 2027.
She’s also actively helping shape Happy Death Day 3. As we recently reported, Rothe and Christopher Landon have worked out the entire story together. They’re still waiting for Universal and Blumhouse to provide the funding, so Tree’s return hasn’t been given the green light just yet.
For now, you can watch a giant snake capsize Rothe’s boat in this clip. Apparently, surviving one kind of horror only makes her want to sign up for another.
