Making movie gore look convincing becomes a horrific obsession in Wounds, and we’ve got a pretty gnarly teaser ahead of its October 8 world premiere at Screamfest.
Jack Kilmer (The Nice Guys) and Paris Jackson (American Horror Stories) star in the psychological thriller from director Ron Krauss, which follows a special effects makeup artist who finds inspiration in an actual murder.
The teaser gives me Friday the 13th vibes and promises some ultra-violent sequences, with flashes of pretty brutal imagery. And having Jackson in the mix is pretty fucking cool. Kilmer stars as Caleb Castle, a horror-obsessed effects artist struggling to prove himself at a fading studio. With the company facing collapse, Caleb lands work on that vampire production and meets Jackson’s Ginny Brown, a talented fellow artist. But after witnessing a brutal murder, his pursuit of realistic effects takes him toward increasingly horrific methods.
Shot entirely on 35mm film, Wounds is described in the announcement as a love letter to independent horror, drawing on the spirit of Brian De Palma, David Cronenberg, and John Carpenter.
The cast also includes Eric Roberts (The Dark Knight), , , , and ().
