Star Mikey Madison has revealed when we’ll see A24’s “weird” and “crazy” ‘The Masque of the Red Death’ adaptation.

Through those comments, Madison also confirmed that, instead of a more modern take, The Masque of the Red Death will be set in medieval times, aligning it closer to Poe’s short story.
Published in 1842, Poe’s story follows Prince Prospero, who retreats with a group of nobles into a fortified abbey as a deadly plague ravages the countryside. To distract themselves, the elites host an elaborate masked ball, but as the night progresses, an unsettling presence disrupts the celebration, forcing the guests to confront the reality they believed they had shut out.
The tale has seen a few adaptations, most notably Roger Corman’s 1964 film starring Vincent Price. If you’ve seen it or any of the other Poe/Price/Poe adaptations, I can’t recommend them enough for lovers of classic gothic horror.

Charlie Polinger wrote and directed the wildly revisionist and darkly comedic new take on the short story.
Madison stars alongside Franz Rogowski (Passages), Benedict Wong (Weapons) and Léa Seydoux (No Time to Die).
Julia Hammer and Erik Feig are producing for Picturestart, alongside James Presson and Lucy McKendrick, with Polinger exec producing.
A24 is set to distribute the film worldwide.
