By the finale, we know Adelaide’s interviews have a purpose beyond documenting what happened in Chamberlain. She’s connected to the mysterious group of psychics known as the Others, whose interest in Carrie raises all sorts of questions about what they want from her.
That larger psychic community was part of Flanagan’s plan before the series premiered. As we reported back in July, he told Entertainment Weekly that Carrie is “part of a sorority of very gifted women and just doesn’t know it.”
The season also reveals that Emaline, played by Thalia Dudek, is real and possesses abilities of her own. Her influence over Carrie feels increasingly manipulative to me, pushing an already vulnerable girl toward her limits. But we shouldn’t assume everyone with powers belongs to the same group or shares the same agenda.
Which brings us back to those necklaces.
Could Rita already know about this community? Is she there to help Carrie, watch her, or steer her toward something? And if Sue’s pendant signifies the same connection, does she understand what she’s wearing?
AdnaanJnr offers another possibility: perhaps Sue’s mother belongs to the group and passed the necklace down to her. That could make it a family connection rather than proof that Sue is knowingly involved.
There’s also the question of Rita’s fate. Another viewer, ScreenCraveHQ, wonders whether she could have survived the prom massacre because of abilities that awakened when she needed them most. We don’t see her again after Carrie throws her into the burning curtains, leaving room for that theory, but the necklace doesn’t establish that she survived.
I couldn’t verify a recognized meaning for the symbol inside these pendants. Maybe the design identifies protectors. Maybe there are competing groups of psychics, with Carrie caught between them. Who knows? That’s speculation, but it’s exactly the kind of question this expanded world invites.
And if the jewelry is deliberate, I wouldn’t really call it an Easter egg. It would be a visual clue planted in the story: a connection sitting there in plain sight before we understood enough to recognize it.
In our full-season review, Daniel Kurland scored Carrie 4/5, calling it “an extremely rewarding update of King’s debut novel.”
All eight episodes are streaming on Prime Video. Take a look at the images. Are these characters connected, and if they are, how much of Carrie’s story have we been misreading?
