‘BIOHAZARD’: Chandler Riggs’ ‘Resident Evil’ Fan Film Is Here, and It’s Fucking Spectacular!

Chandler Riggs’ Resident Evil fan film, BIOHAZARD, is now available to watch in full… all 19 minutes of it. And wow. I wasn’t expecting much from this short, but I’ve got to say, it is fucking spectacular!

We shared an early look here on Dread Central, and the finished film delivers on that teaser. For a low-budget indie short, Riggs recreates an impressive amount of the terror, suspense, gore, and nonstop action from the opening stretch of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. For my money, that’s the scariest Resident Evil game by a mile.

Riggs, who played Carl Grimes on The Walking Dead, writes, directs, edits, and stars as Ethan Winters, whose search for his missing wife brings him into the orbit of the infected Baker family.

The short drops us into that nightmare at the dinner table, pulling directly from the game’s homage to The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Ethan watches this family act fucking crazy, escapes, and finds himself moving from one horrible situation to the next, building toward his confrontation with Jack Baker in the garage.

You can feel the Evil Dead and Texas Chain Saw Massacre influences throughout. That filthy, physical brand of horror is a huge part of what made the game so effective, and Riggs understands it.

There’s some impressive practical work behind all of this, too. The production transformed Arturo Fuente’s original cigar factory in Tampa Bay into a section of the Baker estate, combining practical sets, effects, and stunt work with minimal VFX. supplied special effects equipment.
