Cory Michael Smith has joined the cast of Ari Aster’s mysterious new movie ‘Scapegoat’, making us even more curious what it’s about.
Add another to the growing cast list of Ari Aster‘s Scapegoat.
Deadline reports that Cory Michael Smith (pictured above in Mountainhead) has joined the cast of the filmmaker’s mysterious project for Square Peg and A24.
Smith joins previously announced actors Ella Purnell (Yellowjackets), Caleb Landry Jones (Dracula), and Samba Schutte (Our Flag Means Death), Jude Law (Side Effects), and stars Scarlett Johansson (Under the Skin) and Jacob Elordi (Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein).
Holy shit, what a cast, am I right?
Smith is an interesting choice. Up to this point, I’d assume most of you are more familiar with his comedy work. He’s appeared in films like Mountainhead, Sentimental Value, and killed it as Chevy Chase in Saturday Night. We still don’t know exactly what Scapegoat will be, but considering how funny Aster’s Eddington and Beau is Afraid were, he could be a perfect fit.

Per usual with Aster’s work, Scapegoat is blanketed in mystery, without any plot details at this time. The outlet notes, however, that some say “it’s about a doctor who operates on an internet-famous person. Others say it’s sci-fi romance, and some have said it’s more of a traditional drama for Aster.”
Aster and Lars Knudsen will produce Scapegoat through their Square Peg label.
A24 will distribute the film.
If all goes well, the plan is for Scapegoat to begin shooting later this year.
You can next see Smith in Jeremy Saulnier’s (Green Room) haunt horror film Slayground, out January 29th, 2027 via A24.
